Bungie recently announced the upcoming Monument of Triumph expansion as the last update for Destiny 2. It provides a massive overhaul with new in-game content and features, making the gameplay for any activity more rewarding and convenient for everyone. Despite the studio implying its interest in moving onto a new gaming project by living “beyond Destiny 2,” recent reports reveal the studio’s instability.
It’s claimed, by Bloomberg, that Bungie will undergo a massive layoff procedure after the Monument of Triumph expansion releases on June 9, 2026. This decision stems from the company facing multiple issues, such as the underwhelming performance of Marathon and a significant loss in the company’s value. Bungie is currently giving sole attention to its extraction shooter with no other project approved for development, including Destiny 3.
Bungie’s current condition won’t affect the availability of Destiny 2 at the moment. Its online servers will remain active for the community to stay connected while leaving the door open for newcomers to join the final expansion. The developers have expressed their immense gratitude for those who supported the series for over a decade. What happens to the company after the final expansion for Destiny 2 will depend on Sony.
