Although there are always games coming out, and many of them deserve attention, we wanted to highlight five games here releasing in January that look to get the year started off right. Here they are in no particular order.

Dynasty Warriors Origins

Koei Tecmo Games is back again with another entry into the Dynasty Warriors franchise. Dynasty Warriors has been around since 1997. Fans of the franchise have been waiting for this one. Bringing action packed set pieces to chaotic and tension-filled battlefields, with Dynasty Warriors Origins shepherding in a new age of gameplay with an original protagonist a “nameless hero.”

Releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC January 17, 2025.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

The remaster of the Wii game released back in 2010, Nintendo brings back one of its many iconic franchises with Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. Players will experience the adventure with DK and Diddy Kong against the Tiki Tak Tribe with this visually enhanced version. Fans will be able to stomp, blast, and roll across Donkey Kong Island in this action-packed and family friendly platformer.

Releasing on Nintendo Switch January 16, 2025.

Sniper Elite: Resistance

Taking place during the events of Sniper Elite 5, developing studio Rebellion is introducing players to a new standalone story. Featuring a first-time leading hero, Harry Hawker, Special Operations Executive (SOE) agent. Players will take on enemies in a game that Rebellion states, “offers unparalleled sniping mechanics, stealth and tactical third-person combat.”

Sniper Elite Resistance will also include a new style of side missions, called Propaganda Missions. It will also feature a full-length campaign story as well as optional Kill List targets, infiltration and extraction points and other types of side missions as well.

Releasing on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, and PC January 30, 2025.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

This game is also known as AKA ‘Final Fantasy VII Project Trilogy Part 2’. Square Enix is porting its heavy hitter to the PC markets. Much like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Square Enix is sending its second entry into the remake trilogy project over to the PC bros once again. Originally released on PlayStation on February 29, 2024. Soon fans will be able to play on PC.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 coming to PC. From Insomniac Games and PlayStation Publishing, the talented developer brings the next entry into the Spider-Man video game series. Steam’s description says it best:

“Be Greater. Together. The incredible power of the symbiote forces Peter Parker and Miles Morales into a desperate fight as they balance their lives, friendships, and their duty to protect in an exciting chapter of the critically acclaimed Spider-Man franchise on PC.”
