Assassin’s Creed Shadows locks Photo Mode filter behind Ultimate Edition

Ubisoft is locking a Photo Mode filter behind its Ultimate Edition, retailing for $129.99. It also comes with gear and weapon sets exclusive to the edition, too.

The ever-controversial pre-order page showcases that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will lock its Photo Mode’s Red Dragon filter behind this premium edition. It’s also very much following a similar pre-order model that Star Wars Outlaws abides by, with an exclusive quest for a “measly” $109.99. But, at least, Outlaws didn’t lock a filter behind its Ultimate Edition.

It seems rather odd that of all things a filter on a feature many get use out of — that being Photo Mode — is getting locked behind a hefty paywall. But, we suppose this is Ubisoft we’re talking about, so we can’t be all that surprised. This entry also proves to already — with only its world premiere — be rather divisive thanks to its secondary protagonist of Yasuke, a real-life foreigner-turned-samurai who served Oda Nobunaga, meaning it’s not making someone up, but with that comes the additional scrutiny of muddying historical figures and their legacy.
