Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (read our review), the critically acclaimed sole expansion to the already immensely popular and successful FromSoftware title, has sold five million copies in just three days since launch. Obviously, since then, it’s likely gone up.
In the blog posted on Bandai Namco’s website, the company sent a message to players thanking them for their support and giving the audience “heartfelt gratitude.”
In Shadow of the Erdtree, you enter into a new land, the Land of Shadow, following in demi-god Miquella’s footsteps. Your Tarnished character explores a dark and dreary landscape filled with deep dungeons, dangerous foes, and demonic bosses.
The DLC released to wide critical acclaim. However, sometime after release, public perception about the difficulty has led to a change in Steam reviews from overwhelmingly positive to mixed. This sparked an update which re-balanced the new upgrade system making the early part of the DLC a bit easier for players starting out. With this announcement it is clear that regardless of the conversations and discourse that arises out of the difficulty of the expansion, financially the DLC has been a massive success for FromSoft.
