Indiana Jones and the Great Circle DLC knows how far you are in the base game

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s The Order of the Giants DLC will change its difficulty based on how far you are in the base game. Basically, it’s a balancing act of making the game not too hard for newbies and not too easy for vets of the game.

Creative director Axel Torvenius and lead game designer Zeke Virant spoke with IGN about this new system. It’s a sort of logic system that knows how far you are in the game and will dynamically scale the difficulty based on your progress. In the most basic way, each level appears to represent a difficulty, with Vatican players set to “first tier” while those who breeze past Giza and beyond will see themselves in the second or third tier.

“Players who are at the end of the game don’t need to worry about the difficulty [being too easy] as actually we have a new system in place where players are dynamically scaled based on how far they progressed. We know a lot of players are coming back from the endgame and would like to have a continuation of that difficulty, especially if they have health upgrades and a lot of abilities.”

In our review of the base game, Adrian Cozmuta said: “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a masterclass in faithfully adapting and elevating a beloved franchise. The title impresses with its first-person exploration and immersion, set pieces, level design, storytelling, and presentation. However, enemy AI inconsistencies, the lack of manual saves, and occasional performance mishaps leave just a few dents into this otherwise engrossing experience.”

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of the Giants hits PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 on September 4.
