Game Pass may be making some more changes soon. Microsoft does not appear to be waiting very long to begin discussing more variety when it comes to its service model.
This new information comes to us from Jez Corden at Windows Central Gaming, where he writes in an article, that he has heard from sources that Microsoft is “working towards” a cloud-only tier of Game Pass.
Jez states that he’s heard that Microsoft is looking to add a “cloud-only version of its subscription that would be cheaper and more approachable to buy than Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.”
Seemingly in an effort to ramp up its service before the long-awaited Call of Duty Black Ops 6 game launches later this year. This rumored cloud-only tier may appeal to a wider, less gaming focused community. Coming off the back of an announcement from Amazon and Microsoft of Xbox Game Pass being added to select Amazon Fire Stick devices, a cloud-only tier would be an interesting change.
Undoubtedly, a cloud-only tier would likely be a more manageable price point for many newcomers rather than the soon-to-be $19.99 price of Ultimate. Microsoft may be hopeful that a move toward a cloud-only tier will entice potential customers that do not want to purchase a console in order to play games.
Even though this is not an official announcement, it could be argued that a cloud-only tier might make sense if Microsoft wants to continue growing Game Pass and reaching new customers. We will have to see if an official announcement comes in the near future and what that might entail for consumers interested.
