The upcoming first-person shooter, XDefiant, won’t be pay-to-win like many expect, according to Ubisoft itself. It’s facing a fair bit of pushback with its other IPs, chiefly Assassin’s Creed Shadows, for its controversial reveal.
In a recent blog post, it’s shared that any item in the free-to-play shooter’s shop will be — for the most part — cosmetic and if anything that can be purchased through the shop can alter gameplay, it can also be unlocked through playing the game. The big example it gave was the DeadSec preseason, which can be purchased or unlocked via an in-game challenge.
Ubi also assures fans that the game will have plenty of content for players just looking to jump in without spending money on its currency or messing with its premium battle pass. Weapon and character skins, player animations, emoji packs, and player cards can be expected when the game launches.
Obviously, this won’t completely absolve XDefiant for the controversial tactic, but when has that ever stopped Ubisoft? The first-person shooter will launch tomorrow.
