Dragon Quest XI receives new optimization for the Nintendo Switch 2 release

Square Enix was previously preparing for a Dragon Quest presentation on the series’ 40th anniversary date. Due to its short length, the developers quickly announced the native Nintendo Switch 2 version of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of the Elusive Age – Definitive Edition.

The Nintendo Switch 2 port is designed similarly to the other gaming platforms, becoming the most updated version with every content available. The newest feature is its optimization modes: Graphics and Performance. Nintendo Switch 2 players can decide whether to prioritize graphical fidelity or higher framerates.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of the Elusive Age – Definitive Edition will release physically on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 24, 2026. It will appear as a Game Key Card with a new game case sleeve. Anyone who owns the Nintendo Switch version won’t be able to transfer any save data to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 port. Currently, there is no confirmation for an upgrade path, making the Nintendo Switch 2 release a separate version from its predecessor.
