Arkane Austin was in the midst of working on a big update for its fumbled vampire shooter, Redfall, complete with the promised new heroes, before its closure. There’s also that concern of the game’s always-online requirement.
As reported by IGN, this update would’ve been released on Halloween, marking a year-and-a-half of post-launch support — as minor as that might be — and it seems like that could’ve been a huge turn-around for it. This always-online shooter has its core audience who are disappointed to see it go, as it had plenty of potential to be a great co-op romp with the buds, but now its future lies with Microsoft, which may see no point in keeping the game alive.
This concern could’ve been quenched with an update supposedly planned for May, which would’ve allowed players to play offline, but it seems the team was too slow an this will never come to fruition. Granted, the slow update timeline is pretty on-the-nose for Arkane Austin, which took five months to implement the 60 FPS patch on the Xbox Series X. Meanwhile, it took the studio a month before it debuted its first major patch after the fumbled launch full of bugs, poor AI, and a lack of compelling missions.
For all we really know, this could’ve been the means to revive Redfall, but instead, Microsoft closed the studio entirely.
