Goichi “Suda51” Suda has stated that he would love to release his GameCube-era cult hit Killer7 on modern hardware. Yeah, the game got a PC version 2018, but wouldn’t it be nice to see a remaster or even a remake?
In an interview with VGC, Suda explains that it’s very much in a similar boat to No More Heroes, the developer — Grasshopper Manufacture — isn’t the rights owner of the IP and thus needs a greenlight to make any new product from its actual owner, which in this case is Capcom. Unfortunately, the Japanese game company only allowed for a PC port. That said, he isn’t giving up entirely and still hopes to someday make it happen.
“For Killer7, Capcom only okayed the PC version port. We would love to release it on current consoles as well but we would need Capcom’s permission to do that. I really hope to get it done someday.”
Killer7 is a highly-stylized 2005 action adventure game published by Capcom with Resident Evil director and Tango Gameworks founder Shinji Mikami and storied game producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi. Putting you in the shoes of Harman Smith, a man with seven different split personalities that can come to life.
It’s surely disappointing as the game itself didn’t actually sell very well at the start, though, it does seem like Capcom isn’t opposed to remasters and remakes of older games, after all, it did ask for feedback on what reboots people wanted to see earlier this year.
