US Marvel Rivals dev team laid off

The US development team working on Marvel Rivals has seemingly been laid off with little to no explanation. Frankly, this echoes Tango Gameworks-level of weird.

Chinese game studio NetEase Games released Marvel Rivals to great success, but recently, Thaddeus Sasser took to LinkedIn to share that his entire US team was given the boot. Of note, the team that was fired was a support team and doesn’t affect the game in any massive meaningful way, according to Daniel Ahmad.

The team was based out of Seattle and focused on level and game design. Currently, it’s not clear if the game director was part of the layoffs or not. We know level designer Jack Burrows was as he also took to Linkedin.

Not long ago, Marvel Rivals snagged a large player count and continues to find success, even without plans for a PvE mode.

In our Marvel Rivals review, we said: “If you’re not into multiplayer, it’s at least worth a shot because it’s free-to-play. NetEase released Marvel Rivals at just the perfect time. We will see how far they can take this very strong launch, but currently, this game is a blast! It’s a must-play for Marvel fans, shooter fans, and especially Overwatch fans.”
