The gaming world will soon be converging in Cologne, Germany for this year’s Gamescom. Running between August 21-25, Gamescom is one of the top events for developers and publishers to put their best foot forward. While Sony and Nintendo are a “no show” this year, Xbox plans to woo gamers with a stacked showcase.
Heavy hitters like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed, STALKER 2, and many other titles will receive announcements and gameplay trailers. Of particular interest is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and its release date. Xbox has been secretive about Indy’s release date for some time now, only hinting that it may launch in Q4 of this year. We hope that Gamescom can finally clear this up.
Xbox delayed Avowed to February 18, 2025 “to give players’ backlogs some breathing room.” Nonetheless, Avowed will be present at Gamescom. We hope to see more gameplay and story being revealed for the Obsidian RPG. On a related RPG note, the British Fallout-inspired Atomfall will make an appearance as well. Yet, developer Rebellion remains tight-lipped on its social media about what it will show off. We’d wager tea and zombies are somehow involved.
On the DLC side, Starfield will make its appearance with the anticipated Shattered Space expansion, with Xbox potentially unveiling a release date. The Vessel of Hatred expansion will also add to the Diablo IV story and gameplay with a new campaign, class, and region. Forza Horizon 5, Sea of Thieves, and Flight Simulator are present at Gamescom too, potentially showcasing smaller additional content.
Nonetheless, there are several notable omissions from Gamescom. These include Fable, South of Midnight, and Doom: The Dark Ages, all of which are highly anticipated after making their appearance in the Xbox June showcase. For these, we will have to hold on a bit longer for more details.
Xbox confirms that its Gamescom livestream runs between August 21-23 at 3PM CEST | 9AM EDT | 6AM PDT. The livestream can be viewed on the official Xbox YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook channels.
