Yes, Assassin’s Creed Shadows requires an internet connection to install

Just like the controversial internet requirement for Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft is requiring players have an internet connection to install Assassin’s Creed Shadows… even if it’s a physical copy. This shouldn’t be a surprise.

On Twitter, the official Assassin’s Creed account addressed the matter, stating it wanted to “share some early information” on the release and answer a common question it’s gotten. Primarily, this was directed at those questioning whether an internet connection would be required, something that isn’t a bad question, as it’s become almost commonplace for studios to implement this requirement, case in Star Wars Outlaws, also by Ubisoft.

In the end — yes, an internet connection will be required to install the game, but no, you won’t need it after it’s been installed. It’s a divisive topic as some will declare that it’s not a big deal and that basically everyone has internet, while others see the glaring flaw in requiring an internet connection to install the game — not everyone has good internet.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is debuting a gameplay showcase or trailer sometime in June and will launch on November 15. Pre-orders are open, with its $129.99 Ultimate Edition coming bundled extra character sets as well as an additional Photo Mode filter. The game itself has been a bit divisive with just its world premiere. It will feature the dual protagonist model of older entries with players taking the role of the stealthy shinobi, Naoe, and actual historical figure Yasuke, who seems to be more action-based.
