New report claims PS5 Pro could release this year, price potentially revealed

The PS5 Pro may be closer than you think. Recent industry reports claim that the PS5 Pro may release later this year, priced between $600-$700.

Industry insider and reporter Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb revealed during the Game Mess Mornings show that the PS5 Pro was “an open secret” at this year’s Gamescom with developers already working with PS5 Pro devkits. Grubb stated:

“The last I heard, this thing is still coming out this year. More recently, what I’ve heard is there is probably going to be a State of Play, not a Showcase, by the end of September.”

By the looks of it, a September State of Play may also be on the cards. However, we don’t know if the PS5 Pro will be announced then. In any case, Grubb estimates that the PS5 Pro may launch this year in October or November. If that happens, it will coincide with the PS4 Pro launching in November 2016.

Most recently, a picture of Death Stranding 2 developer Hideo Kojima is making the rounds across social media. Kojima posted on his X account a picture of himself playtesting the Death Stranding sequel on a suspiciously concealed device. Is this the PS5 Pro or a standard PS5 devkit? Only Kojima-san can reveal that, although we know he has a knack for secrecy.

The PS5 Pro specs have long been rumored, which make credible sources difficult to discern within the sea of leaks out there. Nonetheless, Wccftech have put together a list of the most credible specs for us to ponder:

• 45% performance improvement in rasterized rendering due to a larger GPU and faster memory.

• Improved ray tracing architecture delivering 2-3x speedup on average, with peaks of 4x.

• Custom machine learning architecture that supports 300 TOPS at 8-bit to power the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technique, Sony’s version of Multi Frame Super Resolution based on the PlayStation Machine Learning (PSML) algorithm.

• PSSR is an ML-enhanced version of Temporal Anti-Aliasing Upscaling (TAAU) that requires inputs similar to NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR and fully supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) pipelines.

The PS5 Pro may soon become a reality. There’s nothing left for us to do except patiently wait and enjoy our Astro Bot release.

When do you think the PS5 Pro will release? Will it be a sizable improvement over the base console? Are you planning on buying one? Let us know in the comments and on our social media. Our DMs are always open for you!
