Marvel Snap caught in TikTok ban crossfire

in News

Marvel Snap is unavailable for a sizable chunk of its fanbase amid the TikTok ban that kicked off on Sunday. Supposedly, it’s looking at options to bring the game back to the States.

Marvel Snap Zone reports of the game being taken offline, accompanied by a familiar statement about the title being unavailable in the country. For those out of the know, Marvel Snap, published by Nuverse, has links to ByteDance, the company behind TikTok. Nuverse is the company’s gaming arm, which, of course, with the ban on its social media, it was bound to catch up to the games as well.

Developer Second Dinner is calling this a temporary thing on social media, with its original statement directly citing the TikTok ban before editing that part out.

Unfortunately, MARVEL SNAP is temporarily unavailable in U.S. app stores and is unavailable to play in the U.S.

This outage is a surprise to us and wasn't planned. MARVEL SNAP isn’t going anywhere.

We’re actively working on getting the game up as soon as possible and will…

— Second Dinner (@seconddinner) January 19, 2025

Marvel Snap is a free-to-play digital card game released back in 2022 to mobile devices before making its way to PC the following year. It’s hard to tell what the plans are now, though, supposedly some sort of extension may be revealed that could save both the game itself and the Chinese video sharing platform from facing a controversial ban.
