Historic Looney Tunes shorts no longer available on Max

Warner Bros. has pulled the original Looney Tunes shorts from its streaming service to continue to pivot to adult and family programming. This is nearly 40 years of shorts dashed from the service, it seems.

Deadline confirms the shorts were pulled because children programming isn’t viewed as a priority. Spin-offs, such as the 2020 Looney Tunes Cartoons and New Looney Tunes remains on the service.

Some may remember that back in 2023, people feared the shorts would go away, but the streamer assured fans that it wasn’t going anywhere. That’s not to say this is surprising since the streamer’s children programming has seen a decline. Cartoon Network’s website was shut down and Boomerang shuttered, for example.

The timing is bizarre, though, as this comes at the heels of The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Story, a fully-animated theatrical released Looney Tunes film.
