Not even six months after the theatrical debut of the live action Lilo and Stitch, which grossed over $917M in the box office, Disney has confirmed development of a sequel.
In a post on social media, we see Experiment 626, AKA Stitch, driving around Walt Disney Studios before becoming inspired by the number two. He then proceeds to drive around, leaving marks on the pavement reading out “Lilo and Stitch 2.” Now, it’s worth mentioning that there isn’t anything public about the flick, so it’ll probably be a while before we see anything new from this little blue monster.
It is possible, though, that Disney could just adapt the 2005 direct-to-video Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch, but that would put it in a situation of figuring out how to reintroduce key points of the series that have been altered in the live action adaptation.
Now, Disney making a sequel to the live action film shouldn’t be a surprise, as Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman confirmed to the Wall Street Journal, before the film even hit theaters, that sequel ideas were being thrown around.
