Itch.io suddenly deindexes NSFW games due to payment processor problems

Not even a month after Steam faced pressure from payment processors to pull certain NSFW games, indie game marketplace Itch.io has gone a step further, deindexing all NSFW games. Unfortunately, this was without warning.

On its blog, Itch revealed it was put under pressure by payment processors and is currently conducting an audit to see what adult games can remain on the platform based on the mysterious restrictions its partners have put forward. It has warned that some pages will likely be taken down and those affected will get an email.

Moreover, users on the forum have mentioned that these games have more than just been deindexed, but also entirely nuked from accounts that have already paid for it. It’s hard to say how long Itch.io will be conducting this audit, but it’s safe to say a number of games will be permanently removed and likely users who purchased them will not got any sort of apology refund or anything like as it’s clear once the game is gone from the site, it’s gone from accounts, too.
