The future behind IO Interactive publishing third-party games is uncertain after its first publishing endeavor, MindsEye, proved to be a touch disastrous. To some degree, it actually follows a similar path to that Cyberpunk 2077 in that it was heavily hyped up and released in an unsavory state for many, even leading to console storefronts issuing refunds to unhappy customers. Unlike CDPR’s blunder, though, MindsEye still hasn’t reached that same level of trust just yet.
Speaking to IGN, IOI CEO Hakan Abrak addressed the rocky reception, promising that developer Build a Rocket Boy is working on righting the wrongs with fixes that are coming out. But, as of what will happen to IOI Partners, Abrak seems not comfortable to share.
โSo, IO Interactive will publish our own games internally. IOI Partners? That remains to be seen.โ
Now, IOI Partners is different than IO Interactive itself, as the studio remains publishing its own titles, with its next big release being 007: First Light, which launches next year.
In our review of MindsEye, Ben Newton said: “โIn its current state MindsEye certainly isnโt anything special, but if you are willing to take a risk on something that has a solid foundation, oodles of potential but might just end up leave you a little dissatisfied with the final result, MindsEye is worth a try โ but maybe wait until its performance is ironed out.โ”
