The massive leak of the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie

Paramount’s data has been leaked, leading to a surprising reveal of the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie called Legend of Aang. This issue started with a Twitter user who claimed to have received the Avatar movie file from Paramount through an accidental email. This breach allowed the user to publish it online before many other users followed suit with different reactions and clips.

Avatar: The Last Airbender was one of Nickelodeon’s famous IPs about Aang’s journey to find peace and harmony in the four nations of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. The show ended in 2008 with Avatar Aang learning to control the four necessary elements and stopping the war. The series continued in 2012 with a new roster of characters in Republic City, with Korra as the new Avatar protagonist. This movie appears to showcase the development of Team Avatar, giving the original cast one more adventure together before the events of Legend of Korra.

The growing number of posts mentioning the movie caught Paramount’s attention, including some of the artists that worked on the project. Julia Schoel is one of several animators who expressed disappointment seeing the media spread the full movie file publicly after years of dedicated work. The Legend of Aang film was previously pulled from its theater debut for the Paramount+ streaming service, making the movie leakers abuse the studio’s decision as justification to “free” the movie from paid streaming. Despite their reasons, Schoel stated pirating the movie was “incredibly disrespectful to all of the hard work the artists put in.”

Other creators, like Anna Gong, mention their involvement with the movie’s development, wishing that its official release would be supported properly by the public. At the moment, Paramount has been issuing multiple copyright strike takedowns for posts showing any clip of the movie. Sadly, this predicament may affect the series’ outlook, which could hinder future chances of seeing Team Avatar again.
