PlayStation recently posted its financial reports detailing its performance during fiscal year 2025. Its overall sales of PlayStation 5 were “essentially flat” due to multiple losses, such as high costs and declining hardware sales. Noticing the economic expenses has influenced Sony President and CEO, Hiroki Totoki, to update future plans going forward, including the incorporation of AI in the company culture.
In the gaming department, PlayStation is partnering up with Bandai Namco to research advanced technologies, including generative AI. Sony plans to use generative AI for enhancing creativity for developers rather than replacing them outright, a heavily emphasized detail by Hiroki Totoki. This decision is meant to diminish the cost and length of development time, letting PlayStation tackle more diverse, ambitious works.
“AI is not a replacement for artists or creators.”
Sony will consistently invest in researching AI while keeping a watchful eye on the current market with RAM shortages. It hopes for AI to be beneficial for developers with consistent convenience in the working environment and for fans with high-quality, entertaining products.
