Katsuhiro Harada previously left Bandai Namco in late 2025 after over 30 years of support, centralizing fighting games. Many fans assumed he was retiring after such extensive work, until he recently appeared again with his own new studio under SNK corporation.
The former Tekken director has introduced VS Studio, a new company that was built on May 1, 2026. It’s described as an independent studio that will incorporate an important motto into game development: “Beyond tradition, crafted to perfection.” He contributed many years to the gaming industry, yet still holds the passion to create new great games with more reliable developers.
“We will combine technology, sensibility, and world-class expertise to pursue the ultimate. From a free, open, and spacious environment, we will generate new ideas and create memorable games.”
Yasuyuki Oda, Vice President of SNK, responded to the recent news, showing excitement for his “long-time friend and a worthy rival” joining the same company. He looks forward to seeing the growth of VS Studio, whether it will lean towards making new fighting games or other ambitious projects. Time will tell how the new studio will develop with the support of SNK.
