The Minecraft Movie is one of the highest-grossing films at the global box office. Such success would result in the movie’s new sequel, especially from the predecessor’s ending credits. It wasn’t until Minecraft recently hosted Minecraft LIVE to present A Minecraft Movie Squared.
Some of the cast was revealed for A Minecraft Movie Squared, finally showing the newcomer actor of Alex, Kirsten Dunst, who previously enrolled for Civil War and the original Spiderman trilogy. Several actors in the previous film are making a comeback, such as Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Danielle Brookes. The movie is also welcoming back Matt Berry, though he didn’t get enough time to reveal his new role. He did conveniently spell out a hint relating to Steve’s outfit, despite Jack Black’s confirmed return for his previous leading role. This could imply the film including Herobrine as a new character for its summer 2027 release, though the studio is keeping Berry’s role as a hidden surprise.
Before the trailer ended, Jared Hess, the film Director, and Jens Bergensten, Chief Creative Officer of Mojang Studio, announced a new contest for fans to participate in called the Minecraft Build Challenge. It’s an opportunity for players to showcase their creativity in the film and the ending credits. The contestants will be given four biomes relevant to the movie for creative inspiration, which will require creating unique stuff in the Minecraft Bedrock Edition. The event will end on July 6, 2026, giving Warner Bros enough time to choose the most suitable creations for the film. The studio will present more details about the film’s sequel and upcoming contest in the near future.
