New Spyro: A Realm Beyond trailer revealed, launching Spring 2027

You gotta believe that the adventure finally continues for a beloved purple dragon. Spyro: A Realm Beyond has been officially revealed at the June 2026 Xbox Showcase as part of Summer Games Fest, with Tom Kenny returning as Spyro’s voice.

When Spyro finds himself stranded, his journey to discover a way home is interrupted by the arrival of a vicious invading force known as the Scavs. Spyro must make new allies and rise to protect this realm before it’s changed forever.

The game has been teased for launch in Spring 2027. Not counting references/cameo guest appearances in 2019’s Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, 2020’s Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, 2021’s Crash Bandicoot: On The Run!, and 2023’s Crash Team Rumble, A Realm Beyond will mark Spyro’s first video game since 2018’s Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Speaking of the Reignited Trilogy, Toys For Bob are back at the helm of Spyro’s latest fiery return. Spyro debuts with an updated art style, as well as looking a bit older and with improved wingspan in the years since 2018. While Spyro’s faithful companion Sparx the Dragonfly was not shown in the reveal trailer, it’s quite possible that Spyro being stuck in a new realm is the cause of Sparx’s absence.

Fans will surely find out over the next several months on where A Realm Beyond fits in the Spyro timeline, whether it essentially replaces Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly or if it’ll be another sequel in the original timeline (before the Legend of Spyro reboot trilogy and Skylanders). The former would be similar to Crash 4 IAT’s relationship with Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex.

Considering that both Spyro and Crash Bandicoot had roots as exclusives on the original Sony PlayStation, what is Spyro doing in the XBOX Showcase in the first place? It goes back to October 2023 when Microsoft finalized their acquisition to Crash and Spyro’s owners Activision Blizzard (via Game Developer). Toys For Bob also became an independent studio in 2024, but still managed to land a partnership with Microsoft. Not too long afterwards, early news of Toys For Bob working on their first game into their independence surfaced. Some like YouTuber Canadian Guy Eh alleged that this new game is an unannounced Spyro 4. Safe to say, 2-3 of following up on TFB’s progress has finally paid off.

Additional good news for longtime Spyro fans, especially those who grew up with the purple dragon since the PlayStation era… Spyro: A Realm Beyond will continue Spyro’s multiplatform releases on PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 in addition to Xbox Series X|S.
