Toys For Bob reveals early Spyro concept art for A Realm Beyond

The road (or runway) to the Spring 2027 launch of the recently announced Spyro: A Realm Beyond has built up more momentum, thanks to Toys For Bob’s new content drop to promote the upcoming title.

The beloved purple dragon is returning to the gaming scene with his first new solo game since 2018’s Spyro Reignited Trilogy, now a bit older and with some character design evolution. TFB used their Reignited design for Spyro as his base, adding a longer tail, bigger wings, and additional design improvements for greater flight capabilities… and possibly the same for combat. Granted, these are early explorations into a slightly older Spyro. With only several seconds of gameplay to showcase the improved dragon, it’s yet to be fully realized which concepts will survive into the game’s final form.

Spyro has changed so much from some of his original concept art from the 90s, eh? It’s also a surprise not only to see Spyro grow a bit of a “teenage beard scales” on his cheek, but also that his improved flight capabilities are inspired by the animated series Batman Beyond.

Released a week earlier, TFB also presented a piece of concept art for the new “Harakeets” as they were featured at the beginning of A Realm Beyond’s reveal trailer. If the classic sheep do return in the new game, maybe the harakeets will be their new competition. Hehehe. Or, could they be new fodder for Spyro like the sheep? Maybe fans shouldn’t hope for the latter…

Hold your horns… Spyro: A Realm Beyond launches sometime in Spring 2027 for PC and current-gen consoles! Rewatch the game’s reveal trailer here.
