Playtonic Games launches Steam playtest for Super Yooka-Laylee Kart on Friday

The upcoming third game in the Yooka-Laylee franchise is about to hold its first playtest during this weekend.

Recently on Tuesday, July 14, Yooka-Replaylee devs Playtonic Games announced the first official playtest for their upcoming kart racer title Super Yooka-Laylee Kart. For those not in the know, the playtest is going to focus on the time trial mode between a select seven competitors.

Super Yooka-Laylee Kart was officially revealed at last month’s Day of the Devs event as part of Summer Games Fest. After Playtonic released Banjo-Kazooie’s spiritual successor Yooka-Laylee in 2017 and its sequel Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair in 2019, they picked up the lizard & bat duo with a remaster last year. Now, Super Yooka-Laylee Kart pivots the franchise from platformer to kart racer, with a pixelated art style heavily influenced by the 32-bit SNES Nintendo racer Mario Kart.

The Yooka-Laylee spinoff title, so far, is confirmed for a PC release via Steam. As of this post, there is no announcement for console ports yet (and no launch window either)… so fans will have to wait and see if and when Playtonic officially announces console ports for Super Yooka-Laylee Kart. For now, you can wishlist the game here and sign up for any future playtests.
