Tekken 8 sells 2 million copies, better than dev expected

Bandai Namco’s recently released fighter, Tekken 8, has proven to be a real success, selling two million copies since its launch just last month. This sales number was apparently “better than weโ€™d hoped for at this point.”

Found during its recent financial call, Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki took to Twitter to spill the beans. This is a huge win for the Japanese developer, considering it took around two months for its previous entry to reach this level of sales.

Bernstein on Bandai Namco post earnings call report: results are overall disappointing mainly due to 21 billion yen impairment losses attributed to underperforming game, likely Blue Protocol. Tekken 8's 2 million copies sold are "better than weโ€™d hoped for at this point."

It’s even outpacing competition like Street Fighter 6, which took around five weeks to breach the two million marker, and also fumbled when it came to physical sales compared to Tekken 8. It’s also well outpaced the more violent and legacy-driven Mortal Kombat 1, which breached the milestone only a couple weeks ago, meaning it took the game months to reach the milestone.

Our very James called the game “a complete package, mixing fun and complexity in a way that can even make getting beat up entertaining and well worth its $ 70 price tag.”
