A new State of Play just dropped and there have been a few highlights in this May showcase. A new Astro Bot game by Team Asobi has been announced alongside new gameplay trailers for Concord, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Silent Hill 2 Remake. However, there were no news on the expected Spider-Man 2 DLC, Metal Gear Solid Delta, or the much rumored PS5 Pro. Here are the announcements:
Concord gameplay trailer debuts
A new gameplay trailer debuted for Firewalk Studios’ 5v5 multiplayer shooter Concord. The new trailer showed a pre-rendered cutscene showcasing a bit of the story followed by a first-look at Concord’s gameplay. The gameplay is very similar to Overwatch judging by the art style, weapons, and play styles. Concord will be released on PC and PS5 on August 23 with a beta starting in July.
God of War Ragnarok coming to PC on September 19
Sony announced that God of War Ragnarok is making its way to PC on September 19 alongside a New Game+, the Valhalla DLC, and PC features such as support for ultrawide monitors, uncapped frame rates, and upscaling technology like DLSS and FSR. Nonetheless, Sony has revealed that the PC version will also require a PlayStation Network account, similar to that of the Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut PC launches.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins announced for 2025 release
Developer Omega Force is making a return with its Dynasty Warriors: Origins after the much maligned Dynasty Warriors 9. Dynasty Warriors: Origins features an updated gameplay formula and graphical fidelity while keeping faithful to its hack-and-slash warfare roots. Omega Force revealed that Origins will “depict the chaos of the Three Kingdoms from the eyes of a ‘nameless hero’”, and make use of the PS5 hardware specs by creating an all-new Warriors-like battlefield “where you’re challenged by massive armies as far as the eye can see.” The title is set to launch in 2025, although a set date has yet to be revealed.
Infinity Nikki receiving a beta test in Q3 2024
Open-world RPG and dress-up game Infinity Nikki received a new trailer today alongside the promise of a beta test starting sometime in Q3 2024. Infinity Nikki takes place on the continent of Miraland. Nikki and her friend, Momo, will travel to various nations, meet plenty of friends and creatures, and have a fashionably good time together. No release date has been announced.
Where Winds Meet in development for the PS5
Where Winds Meet is described as “an oriental Wuxia open-world action-adventure RPG that draws inspiration from the romantic and fantastical martial arts works, offering a distinctly oriental experience of boss battles and open-world exploration.” You play as a young swordsman, wielding Wuxia artistries and Kung Fu as you unveil the mysterious veil of your identity. Where Winds Meet looks similar to an Assassins Creed-type adventure but set in China. The trailer ended with an “in development” message, meaning that it will most likely be quite some time until we will have a release date.
Ballad of Antara is a free-to-play fantasy Action RPG releasing in 2025
Free-to-play Ballad of Antara is described by developer TipsWorks Studio as “an action RPG with multiple playable characters. These characters possess the power to traverse the two worlds of normalcy and unimaginable. We call them Emissaries. Each Emissary has its own unique class, gameplay capabilities, and enticing, mysterious story we want to tell. Finding and rallying these Emissaries across the world, strengthening your forces, and discovering the truth behind the calamity of this land are your primary goals in Ballad of Antara.” The game is set to release sometime in 2025.
VR game Skydance Behemoth debuts first gameplay, releasing in October
Skydance’s Behemoth revealed its first VR gameplay trailer. The game is set in the Forsaken Lands, which was once a great civilization that is now just a wasteland. Players will brave the elements and enemies as they uncover dark secrets. Behemoth is releasing sometime this October for the PSVR2, Meta Quest, and Steam VR.
Alien: Rogue Incursion is a VR horror releasing this holiday season
Another VR game was announced for the PSVR2 and it features the Alien. Alien: Rogue Incursion is built on the Unreal Engine 5 and is an original single-player story featuring a protagonist who explores a facility overrun by Xenomorphs. The game is set to scare our socks off sometime this holiday season.
Marvel Rivals coming to PS5 and PC, closed beta set in July
The superhero team-focused PvP shooter Marvel Rivals is coming to PS5 and PC, although no release date has been announced. Nonetheless, we did get a look at its gameplay and a reveal that a closed beta test will be held sometime in July.
Until Dawn remaster gets new trailer, releasing for PS5 and PC this Fall
The Until Dawn remaster debuted a new trailer highlighting some of the new improvements in graphics and animations, as well as some new cutscenes not featured in the original. The game will release this fall for the PS5 and PC, although no set date has been revealed.
Path of Exile 2 is releasing in early access late 2024
The free-to-play Action RPG Path of Exile 2 is coming to the PS5. It will release in early access in late 2024 and feature a new endgame, cross-play, cross-progression, and couch co-op.
Silent Hill 2 Remake showcases new gameplay, releasing October 8 for PS5 and PC
The much anticipated Silent Hill 2 Remake received a new gameplay trailer and a first look at some of the enemies we will encounter. The follow-up showcase Silent Hill Transmission revealed additional footage and exciting announcements for the Silent Hill franchise, including a new movie called Return to Silent Hill and merchandise. The Silent Hill 2 Remake launches October 8 on PS5 and PC.
Monster Hunter Wilds unveils first trailer and gameplay, releasing 2025
The action RPG Monster Hunter Wilds received a much awaited first trailer which showcased its beautifully epic gameplay and graphical fidelity. It also revealed that players can use their save data from Monster Hunter World and Iceborne to receive special weapons and armor sets for Wilds. Monster Hunter Wilds is set to release in 2025 on PC and all curent-gen consoles, although there is no confirmation of a precise date yet.
Astro Bot unveiled, releasing September 6 exclusively for PS5
Sony’s sweetheart (and de facto mascot), Astro Bot, is set to make a full-game appearance in his own game… called Astro Bot! Astro’s Playroom is an outstanding platformer that we have a soft spot for here at Smash Jump. We are happy to see Astro receive his much needed full adventure.
Developer Team Asobi have confirmed that Astro Bot features over 80 levels across six galaxies as Astro is in search of his missing crew. Astro will also receive 15 new abilities to fight off over 70 enemy types. Judging by the beautiful trailer, we will be seeing a plethora of PlayStation characters and franchises making appearances, including Kratos, Nathan Drake, PaRappa, and more.
We also expect that Astro Bot will once again showcase the DualSense’s haptic capabilities. Team Asobi called Astro Bot its “most ambitious game yet.” We can’t wait to see what little Astro and Team Asobi have in store for us! Astro Bot releases September 6 exclusively for PS5.
