Assassin’s Creed Shadows gets one final update before its next new installment launches

Ubisoft has been providing substantial support for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, giving new content and updates to make its Japanese experience fresh. With Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on the horizon, the developer team announced one more title update as a grand finale before the pirate life commences.

Simon Lemay-Comtois, associate game director, hosted a video to present the new content coming for Assassin’s Creed Shadows in update 1.1.11, starting with Black Tides expansion. It’s a new post-game quest designed as the final chapter for the main story between Naoe and Yasuke. Both Assassins are forced to face a new threat barging into Japan: an elite Templar duo called Black Cross.

The small trailer featured Yasuke recognizing the new Templar hunters challenging the assassins. Despite endangering the brotherhood, Naoe suggests they team up again to overcome the new enemies. This new final chapter is only accessible after completing the required quests: Yasuke’s main story, Naoe’s main story, A Critical Encounter quest, and A Puzzlement quest. The Claws of Awaji is a paid expansion update that isn’t required to access the final chapter, though it will provide more story for the main duo assassin.

Another new addition from the final total update is Domain, a new animus activity. It presents various challenges across five new areas with ten difficulty settings. It’s required to create different loadouts as each challenge will equip different modifiers to complicate the objective, such as burning the ground or powering up guards. This activity will feature its own currency and store, letting experienced players purchase gear sets, animus exploits, engravings, and new familiar weapons. Completing the hardest challenges will reward secret goodies that are only earned from the activity rather than the base game’s store.

Finally, the update will provide several bug fixes and stability improvements for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, finalizing its end of support. That isn’t everything, as Ubisoft is currently working on two new live projects for the Animus Hub with exclusive rewards, including legacy costumes of Edward Kenway. These new projects are playable for Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, letting players unlock and carry over rewards from Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced at launch on July 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
