Atari has acquired the Intellivision brand from toy maker Mattel and will continue development of the Amico with a license by the parent. The deal itself doesn’t actually come with it, so the brand is just license.
Atari announced the acquisition and subsequent rebrand of Intellivision with a brand-spanking-new logo on the website. The deal also came with “certain games” from the newly acquired company. The goal of the acquisition is to expand distribution — both physically and digitally — of the brand’s vast library. It also says there’s a possibility of making new games.
Wade Rosen called it a “rare opportunity” to unite the two, considering the staunch rivalry the game companies had in the past.
We acquired the Intellivision brand and game library. 👏
"This was a very rare opportunity to unite former competitors and bring together fans of the golden age of gaming.” – Wade Rosen

For some time, Atari has been pretty gung-ho about its library of games and making more of a push to acquire all it can within the space. It acquired Frontier’s rights last year for Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, meaning the American game company owns all publishing rights to the series. Meanwhile, it also bought rights to over 100 retro game IPs like Demolition Racer, F-14, Hardball, Bubsy and many more.
