Beat Saber is ending Meta Quest 1 support this year

Beat Games is looking to halt Beat Saber’s support for the Meta Quest 1 in November. The virtual reality rhythm game will remain playable, but multiplayer functionality will stop and its leaderboard will likely phase out, as well, in the future.

On Twitter, the developer revealed the news, saying it’s making the move to focus its efforts on the “next projects within Beat Saber.” The iconic rhythm game has become a staple within the community of not just VR enthusiasts, but also rhythm game junkies. Luckily, the game is cross-buy between the Meta and Rift family, so even if you aren’t able to play with your friends on the latest headset — which would be the Meta Quest 3, retailing at $499.99 — just yet, you can still pick it up on your new headset when you do.

Dear players, to focus our development efforts on our next projects within Beat Saber, we will no longer support Meta Quest 1 as of November 2, 2024. The game will continue to be playable, but Multiplayer functionality will stop and Leaderboards might be phased out in the future. pic.twitter.com/h7Jefa3g75

Beat Saber has been a high-profile game for some time now, with its release in 2019 being particularly powerful as it showcased one of the greatest strengths of VR and proved how fun it could be. The game has consistently topped VR-related charts month over month, with it often being #1 on PlayStation almost every time VR downloads are brought up.

The game is also beloved for its customization on PC, with many mods letting players customize stuff you previously couldn’t and the ability to Beat Saberify a song of your choice and share it with the world. In the end, players have until November 2, 2024 before the game goes officially unsupported on the VR headset.
