Bungie has recently been going through complications within its work culture and projects, slowly becoming unsustainable to function. This issue has resulted in the company facing a reduction in force after Destiny 2’s declining performance in recent years.
Hermen Hulst, the PlayStation CEO, posted a message relating to the depressing situation. The layoffs aren’t just affecting the Destiny team, but also several employees from the Marathon team and the Sony team supporting Bungie’s operations. Despite laying off the Marathon team, Sony is continuing to prioritize Bungie’s latest project with more support and other content established from its previous two seasons.
Luckily, these layoffs won’t affect the availability of Destiny 2. It will continue to remain active for the community to enjoy with its previously final update. Bungie is currently focused on providing new support for Marathon, making its latest project more accessible and enjoyable for a broader audience. What’s next for the studio will be revealed in the near future.
