Civilization 7 – VR heading out in spring

After a long time of holding onto a concept that could feasibly work in the VR space, Firaxis has announced Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 – VR. No, it’s not developed by Firaxis itself.

On the Meta blog, it was revealed the game will be launching on the Meta Quest 3 as well as 3S and will support mixed reality or entirely virtual, placing you in front of a Command Table with the world laid out in front of you. Virtual reality will mean you’re transported to an “ornate museum” while mixed will adapt to your real-world surroundings.

Additionally, you don’t have to play alone, with Civilization 7 – VR allowing you to compete to rule the world in online multiplayer with up to three other Quest 3 and 3S users. Oh yeah, and the game is developed by a different team, that being The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds developer, PlaySide Studios.

Non-VR Civ 7 is available to those who purchased into early access, with Firaxis promising better UI, more co-op functionality, more maps, and other stuff following player feedback. Meanwhile, regular players will have to wait until February 11.

Civilization 7 – VR releases sometime in spring 2025 to Meta Quest 3 and 3S.
