Croc dev wants to revive N64 cult classic Buck Bumble

Under the publishing rights of Ubisoft, Buck Bumble was a third-person shooter from the late 90s that Croc developer, Argonaut Games, would love to remake.

Speaking to MCV Develop (via VGC), co-CEO Mike Arkin discussed why Croc was its go-to revival story. Simply put, it was the safest bet, with other IPs, having downsides, like with Buck Bumble; it was an N64 game, which limited the audience to some capacity. Meanwhile, Croc sold three million copies, which at the time was a big deal for a studio of any size.

“I-Ninja is a really well-regarded and underappreciated game and weโ€™d love to revisit it. Buck Bumble too, but that was N64-only so less people know about it.

Croc, on the other hand, sold well over 3 million copies (back when that was a lot of copies) and was the first big platformer on the original PlayStation console. Itโ€™s also got broad appeal, both to men and women. Croc really appealed to everyone. It was the obvious choice.โ€

Arkin did, though note that Argonaut hopes Buck Bumble will “have his day in the sun, eventually.โ€ Unfortunately, it will be a while, as the team is busy with moving forward and bringing Croc 2 to modern consoles.
