Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson has more or less confirmed that it’ll stay the course for the accepted normal price for Battlefield 6.
During an earnings call, one asked if BF6 would be $80, as this appears to be what some companies are pushing towards, and EA is often an early adopter to these sorts of things. But, Wilson seems to dismiss it, noting it’s “not looking to make changes on pricing” as it already offers a “fairly broad pricing scheme” across its products.
“We’re not looking to make any changes on pricing at this stage, but that’s in the construct of we already offer a fairly broad pricing scheme across our various products.”
At least right now, it seems EA is playing things safe by seeing how long it takes before other developers adopt the $80 model. Notably, outside of Nintendo with Mario Kart World, we had Xbox attempt to charge $80 for The Outer Worlds 2 before backtracking likely due to backlash. This isn’t clear if Xbox is ditching the idea altogether or if it’s still planning on releasing some of its first-parties at the $80 price point.
So far, no other developer has gone above $70 for standard games, again, likely fearing intense backlash affecting its bottom line. Unlike the transition from $60 to $70, which faced similar scrutiny, there simply was more time between the price changes, we’re still in that same generation that started the price hike.
