EA closes down Anthem early before its official closure

EA previously announced January 12, 2026, as the final date for Anthem’s online service. Since it has no offline mode, the game will become unplayable in the future. This decision has recently inspired some players to re-download Anthem to explore the time-limited experience, only to discover that the game’s availability is already being stripped from players’ libraries.

Several players, such as DansGaming, have reported being locked out of the game despite having previously purchased it. Since Anthem is closing at a later date, EA has stripped downloadable access to the game to avoid future buyers wasting money. This decision seemed to have also affected those who already owned the game but had uninstalled it from their platforms. This contradicts EA’s previous statements regarding the game’s eligibility for re-download before its shutdown. The Anthem experience is currently limited to a few players who already kept the game installed before its shutdown, locking everyone else out of redownloading it to re-experience the world of Anthem.
