Godzilla remake stands tall against new Grand Theft Auto release

Atari announced a remake of a classic Godzilla fighter from the GameCube, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. Remade in a modern engine, the title features some of the most screen-accurate models of the classic kaiju in a video game yet.

Developed by the game’s original developer, Pipeworks (which has spent the intervening years working as a support studio for titles like Madden and Marathon), Destroy All Monsters Melee promises local co-op or new online competitive modes in addition to the original game’s arcade-style story. While the trailer focuses on Big G and his arch nemesis King Ghidorah, Atari promises 12 fighters, meaning we can expect the full roster to make a return. An additional “Destruction’ mode is shown off as well as what seems to be a classic style Mechagodzilla. While playable in the original release, the Mechagodzilla was a more modern rendition compared to what we’ve seen in the trailer. Whether this means optional skins or additional fighters is anyone’s guess, but there’s not much of a wait to find out. Destroy All Monsters Melee launches November 3, 2026, for $29.99 USD, though physical versions will be a bit heavier on the wallet at $39.99.

Studio Pipeworks also released two additional titles in a similar vein to this one: a more RPG-flavored release in Godzilla: Save The Earth, and a more party-focused one on the Wii with Godzilla: Unleashed. This will mark the first console release of a Godzilla title, new or old, since 2014’s simply titled Godzilla. That game never made it to online storefronts and was relatively hard to come by, leaving copies on sites like eBay to skyrocket despite its paltry Metacritic score.

The new Destruction mode seems to mimic that game fairly well, giving the curious a cheaper avenue to try out the “rarest PS4 game” for themselves.

While he hasn’t appeared as the star, Godzilla has been a frequent collaborator in other titles. Dave the Diver received a Godzilla-focused expansion. Fall Guys, Call of Duty, Sonic Rumble, and PUBG have all had Godzilla-themed skins and appearances from Godzilla proper in its games, and the Ultima version of Godzilla was included in Super Robot Wars as a DLC character. Most recently, the American Monsterverse version was a marquee character in Fortnite, starring opposite Hatsune Miku. Both characters were revealed as DLC for the recent Sonic Racing Crossworlds earlier this week.

In the midst of Summer Games Fest, September and October have become engorged with new releases, but November, usually a bustling time of year, is surprisingly quiet. This is, no doubt, to make way for the gargantuan release of Grand Theft Auto VI slated for November 19.

More than a few players have pointed out that Atari’s fearless release early in the month feels extremely appropriate for the gorilla whale, who seems most motivated to take down bigger monsters on his turf. There’s probably not too much crossover here, admittedly, but with everyone else clearing a path weeks wide, it’s hard not to appreciate the little guy standing firm. Even if he is 328 feet tall.
