Following in the footsteps of many games, including its precursor, Grounded 2 will feature an arachnophobia mode to help those who can’t stand spiders.
Polygon reports that during some time on the ground at Summer Game Fest, it got to play some of the game alongside chat with the devs. The discussion led to touching on one of the common phobias, that being the fear of spiders. Game director Chris Parker explains that the original team did a great job at introducing the mode.
โI think the Grounded team โ the Grounded 1 team โ did a really good job in tackling this problem. I mean, even though youโre mostly fighting what looks like balloon animals that foundation made it easy for the Grounded 2 team to build on that.”
That said, one of the trickier things for the team was a new addition added to Grounded 2 — mounts. With that, they have to figure calculate the feet and make sure you still know what’s going on.
โAnd so we have to respect arachnophobia mode for that as well, which has been a little bit more tricky. We have to calculate feet, and things like that, so you can really understand whatโs going on, and how to run that thing around the world, and how the world is going to interact back with it. Itโs tricky, but itโs probably not as tricky as you think. We really just go onto the skeleton and put cute-looking spheres where claws and eyeballs and abdomens used to be. And as long as we take it far enough away from that eight-legged insect, that seems to work for people. So yeah, itโs not all that crazy.โ
Grounded 2 heads to Xbox Series X|S and PC on July 29.
