Hackers discover new PlayStation exploit for breaching accounts

PlayStation is currently facing a security breach issue that hackers discovered to steal player accounts. This new method lets them easily gain access to a targeted PlayStation account. One of the earliest victims was Colin Moriarty, a Last Stand Media host who dedicated his time to gaming news.

He spoke publicly about how the hackers stole his account without the need for phishing or sending suspicious links. This new process only requires knowing an email address for a PlayStation ID and a purchase order. The hackers used the basic information to call PlayStation support for easy access to a targeted PSN account. Even if the original owner has a password and an active 2FA feature, this method lets the criminals pass through undetected and change the account information to their liking. The hackers who took Colin’s account weren’t random thieves, as they were sneakily posing as Sony representatives to take more sensitive information.

Luckily, he was able to recover his PSN account, but he had to use his close connections within Sony to hasten the process, which many users don’t have. Seemingly, the hackers aren’t finished as they seem to be targeting other members of Last Stand Media and other highly popular PlayStation accounts for earning sales in the market. Sony hasn’t responded about the situation at the moment, but hopefully the company will update its security measures soon for the community’s safety.
