Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price announces retirement

Ted Price, being the CEO and founder of the PlayStation-owned studio Insomniac Games, has been with the studio since it’s 1994 beginnings. He is about to step down, and his time for retirement is around the corner.

Ted made his retirement announcement official in a January 22 Sony Interactive Entertainment Blog post. The announcement has been made following the LA wildfires that has been blazing in recent days, which also affected Insomniac employees (which Ted also acknowledges).

“…I felt comfortable announcing to the Insomniac team that after having been incredibly fortunate to enjoy such a fulfilling career in games, Iโ€™ll be retiring from the industry at the end of March. Today, Iโ€™m sharing this news more broadly.

I actually made this decision last year. For me, after over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team.”

Just as the Insomniac CEO will officially step away at the end of March 2025, Variety also reports that trio Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang will take over as the studio’s new co-heads.

During Price’s 30-year history with Insomniac, he was around when the studio created the beloved PlayStation mascot platformer Spyro The Dragon in 1998. In fact, the studio was originally called Xtreme Software before rebranding in 1996. Insomniac would go on to grace gamers with franchises including Ratchet and Clank and Marvel’s Spider-Man (and its sequel). Insomniac has been owned by Sony since 2019 after being purchased for $229 million.
