In a bit of shocking change, TT Games will only have seven playable characters in the upcoming LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Traditionally, there are way more unlockable characters in previous LEGO games.
Following the non-committal answer around the game’s price, even more shocking things have come to light thanks to the FAQ. Apparently with this next entry, you’ll only be able to play as a handful of heroes and vigilantes, such as Batman (duh), Jim Gordon, Catwoman, Talia al Ghul, and more.
“LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will feature seven playable characters, including Batman, Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul. Each character is equipped with unique skills, combos, and gadgets โ like Batmanโs Batclaw, Jim Gordonโs foam sprayer, Robinโs line launcher, and Catwomanโs whip.”
The choice to limit the playable characters so much is a shock to most anyone who have played any number of LEGO games in the past well… ever. Now, it seems TT Games has a reason for this, specifically surrounding this game being more squarely a Batman game, thus choosing to limit the characters you can play as, at least according to IGN, which spoke with head of production Jonathan Smith.
“This is wholly a Batman game to focus on that character, to really bring that character. That means you’ll still play as and with other playable characters, Jim Gordon, Catwoman, Robin, Batgirl, to round out the bat family. But we think we really need to focus on Bruce Wayne and his story for that player journey, that player experience in Gotham.”
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has no concrete release date beyond sometime in 2026.
