Mass Effect creator’s new studio, Humanoid Origin, shuts down

Mass Effect creator Casey Hudson departed from BioWare in 2020 to form his own studio, Humanoid Origin, which started working on a new character-driven narrative in a sci-fi universe. Unfortuantely, that tale will go untold as the studio shuts down.

Revealed on LinkedIn (via IGN), Humanoid Origin faced unexpected shortfalls with funding, leading the studio to be financially unstable and not able to continue to operate.

We’re heartbroken that we will not be able to bring our new science-fiction universe to completion. Our main concern at this time however is for our team, and we are committed to supporting them in their transition to new employment.

In our time together, the team achieved incredible progress, and demonstrated that it’s possible to do amazing work while fostering a culture of fun and creativity. We thank them for their talent, courage, and friendship.

Previously, the studio was dubbed Humanoid Studios back in 2021 until the new name popped up in 2023. It’s clear the studio’s troubles were sudden, considering it was actively hiring as recently as May.
