Dead by Daylight is adding a 2v8 mode after years of begging from the playerbase.
Behaviour Interactive’s Eric Pope and Justin Brown sat down on stream, to unveil details of the upcoming mode.
To accommodate the ten players, there will now be 13 generators available for repair, in which eight will need to be fixed to activate the exit gates. When there are two remaining players, two hatches will become available. The team created larger versions of the following maps: Autohaven Wreckers, MacMillan Estate, Red Forest, Crotus Penn Asylum, and Coldwind Farm, to incorporate these new changes.
One of the biggest changes in gameplay is the lack of hooks, instead players will be put into a cage much like Pyramid Head’s power; this choice was made to drive up the gameplay pace. When a survivor is uncaged the killers will not receive a loud noise notification. Survivors who have not been caged will have their auras revealed any time a generator pops.
“We really wanted to drive up the fast paced sort of chaotic element of this mode”
This new mode will now have classes instead of perks. All ten players will embody a specific role, which will create team defined objectives on both sides. Survivors can play as any character regardless of class, while killer skills will be killer specific.
During the fan questions segment, Brown was asked if the 2v8 mode would become permanent, he responded by saying “it will be a discussion moving forward, today we do not have a proper answer for that.” In the same line of questioning Brown also confirmed that 2v8 will not be available as a custom match option.
The new mode will be available from July 25 through August 8, so play it while you can!
