Sega has confirmed that the new Crazy Taxi will include multiplayer and be set in an open world. This is a massive switch from previous games, which were largely geared toward a single player experience.
According to a video shared by Sega (via Insider Gaming), developer Sapporo Studio shared some of the troubles it faced shifting away from a single player model to the live service multiplayer model it now favors. The trailer showcases some cool things for most any Crazy Taxi fan, like police chases, stunts, and tacking on other places zooming around the map.
This new entry will also introduce customization to your vehicle alongside potentially traveling on foot, as some clips showed people fiddling around with a character customization screen. Now, it could be more like Cyberpunk 2077 (we know it’s a weird comparison), where this means very little and is just more of a nice-to-have feature to give it that little bit more depth.
We could be wrong, though, and potentially there is room for on-foot movement, after all, it’s already shaking up the formula by introducing online multiplayer.
The new Crazy Taxi has no release date.
