New entry into the Arkhamverse announced

Rocksteady’s latest entry into the Arkhamverse seems to be facing tough times, with WBD announcing another game set in the same universe. Newly revealed is Batman: Arkham Shadow, slated for release later this year.

With the release of a trailer unveiling the next installment in the renowned Arkham series, fans caught a glimpse of what lies ahead. This announcement raises numerous questions — who is the villain? When does the game take place? Why is it exclusive to Meta Quest 3? Yes, the latest addition to the series will be exclusive to Meta Quest 3.

In the trailer, there’s a significant hint as to Batman’s adversary, none other than the Ratcatcher. Ratcatcher 2 was recently portrayed in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad. The character has a notable history in the Arkham series, famously being charred alive by the Arkham Knight. The trailer teases the foe when Batman is attacked by rats towards its end.

Considering Ratcatcher’s potential role as the main antagonist, if the game is canonical to the Arkham series, it would likely take place before Arkham Knight. Alternatively, it could introduce a new character or unfold in a different universe within the Arkham Multiverse. Most probably, the game will be set after Ratcatcher’s escape from Arkham Asylum and before Arkham City, given the lack of information about Ratcatcher being re-incarcerated after escaping.

As the year progresses, it will be intriguing to learn more about Batman: Arkham Shadow. Hopefully, the developers can meet the high expectations of fans clamoring for a new Batman: Arkham game.
