Pokémon Winds and Waves has been officially announced exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 as part of the Pokémon Day 2026 and the 30th anniversary of the series.
Gen 10 rumors have been circulating around for some time now, being fueled by supposed leaks of a new game. Today, those rumors have come true. Pokémon Winds and Waves will launch sometime in 2027, exclusively for the Switch 2.
We also received a first look at three new starters: Grass-type Browt, Fire-type Pombon, and Water Gecqua. The Winds and Waves reveal trailer hints at an open world setting that covers island, jungle, and underwater exploration, making this Pokémon title potentially more diverse in biomes than ever before.
Developers Game Freak are back in the driving seat. Winds and Waves looks more graphically advanced and more colorful than predecessors Z-A and Arceus. Nonetheless, this comes at a cost for Switch 1 players who will have to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 since the trailer makes it clear — Pokémon Winds and Waves will be a Switch 2 exclusive.
The Pokémon official website has also shared a look at our main characters depending on which version of the game you play.

The trailer also showed off two special Pikachu to join your adventure. These are called Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, although their role is a secret for now.

We will have to wait until 2027 to get our answers. In the meantime, Pokémon fans can look forward to a couple of other announcements coming from the Pokémon Day, including the cozy Pokémon Pokopia which launches March 5 as well as the classic Nintendo GameCube game Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, which comes out in March to the Nintendo Switch 2 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. Other Pokémon Day announcements can be found on the Pokémon official website.
We are very curious about how Pokémon Winds and Waves can evolve the series on the Switch 2. Stay tuned for more Pokémon news.
