Publisher Daedalic Entertainment announced the release date for their X-COM-inspired superhero tactics game Capes with an exciting trailer. Capes arrives May 29 on PC, PS5, PS4, Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, with pre-orders now available on PlayStation and Switch.
Capes also draws inspiration from games like Freedom Force and Midnight Suns, as well as comics like Days of Future Past, Astro City, and Watchmen. Developer Spitfire Interactive described the Capes story as:
Twenty years ago, the supervillains won. Since then, they’ve created a dystopian city where developing superpowers is a crime and no one has dared oppose them. Until now! Assemble a diverse team of heroes while fighting to take back their city, now controlled by evil despots!
Play across the dark and gritty campaign and patrol assignments, push the story forward and reveal the truth behind the horrific Enhancement program of The Company that is pulling the strings behind the scenes.
Capes features over 50 missions and 150 Hero challenges alongside three game difficulties — Hardcore, Normal (Recommended), and Casual. A playthrough comprising the main story and several side missions can take up to 40 hours to complete. Spitfire Interactive also revealed the following features:
● Be Mighty: Play as heroic protectors of the innocent, each with unique skills and powers. Master your hero and unleash devastating ultimate abilities!
● Assemble Your Team: Select the right team for the right mission. Combat isn’t based on random numbers, so choose wisely to win the day!
● Level Up: Complete challenging missions and side-quests to improve your heroes with new abilities and powerful upgrades!
● Defeat Evil: Face down vile villains and criminal corporate henchmen. Do you have what it takes to free your city from the clutches of villainy!?
For players wanting to “save the city with flair,” Capes launches with the King City Edition. This edition includes the full game and the Supporters Pack filled with extra content like alternate hero appearances, an art book featuring more than 50 pages of Capes artwork, and more.
It’s no secret that superhero property is extremely popular. However, the turn-based video game strategy genre has yet to fully take advantage of this. We are excited to see what Capes can add to this genre!
