Nintendo has answered the question why Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour isn’t a free piece of software, akin to something like Astro’s Playroom. This product acts as a tech demo of the console, being pegged as an “interactive exhibit.”
During the big anticipated Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, among the first-party and third-party reveals, Nintendo unveiled Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. This tech demo will be available for owners but not free of charge, instead, gamers have to fork over $10 to get a visual grasp of what the Switch 2 has in store.
Speaking to IGN, though, Nintendo’s Bill Trinen addressed the tech demo’s price point. In the end, he sounds off that it’s actually quite a “good value” as the software is “pretty robust” and has “a lot of great detail.”
“It’s a pretty robust piece of software. There’s a lot of great detail in there. I think there are people who are particularly interested in the tech and the specs of the system and things like that, for them I think it’s going to be a great product. It’s really for people that want more information about the system rather than necessarily a quick intro to everything it does. And for that reason, and just the amount of care and work that the team put into it, I think it was decided that, ‘Yeah, this feels like $9.99 is not an exorbitant price. It feels like a good value for what you’re getting out of the product.'”
Since the Switch 2 showcase, tons of people have stared at Nintendo to see what it does next, especially as controversy rises among the community due to the console’s $449.99 to $499.99 price point and Mario Kart World being priced at $79.99.
