Ratatan will not release on legacy consoles due to expensive SKU

Ratatan was brought to life thanks to the help of its community. Just under 15,000 fans backed Ratata Arts, funding enough to complete a majority of Ratatan’s stretch goals. Despite the overwhelming support, the game is aiming for an exclusive release for next-gen consoles.

The Patapon developers wish to maintain the highest quality experience for Ratatan without overextending the financial budget, which is currently forcing them to drop the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions. This decision allows the studio to avoid bloating their expenses with license fees to develop the SKUs for older gaming consoles, making the game launch solely for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. The developers are raising some discussions with their publisher, Game Source Entertainment, about additional options for the game to welcome more gaming consoles.

The developers are very grateful for the fans supporting Ratatan’s development, especially Sakajiri Kazuto, the game’s producer. They hope their upcoming work will satisfy the fans once it launches on July 16, 2026. Anyone can currently preorder the game physically or digitally within its eligible gaming platform for the Legendary Spirit Sword Banbansord as a bonus, limited-time offer.

“Everyone of the team is working very hard to make sure the full release is of the utmost quality; This is a game that came to fruition through the support of some many amazing backers and we are so grateful for this chance.”
