The Nintendo Switch has reached a new sales milestone, reaching 150.86 million units sold. Unfortunately, though, it seems its original Switch sales plan is a bit behind.
Nintendo shares the numbers in its recent Q3 earnings report. Within three months, software sales were to the tune of 53.7 million units. Meanwhile, hardware sales decreased year-on-year by 30.6%. Year-on-year, though, software sales were also down 24.4%.
The decline can be linked the outward success of 2023 games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. In contrast to that year, 2024 didn’t have the same level of success, thus its year-on-year numbers are a bit lackluster.
We know this won’t be too big of a problem with the official reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 and its subsequent hype surrounding it as a new Nintendo Direct is slated for April. We already know at least Nacon has some stuff in the pipeline for the new console, as well as some rumors here and there.
